Exploration of Cancer Drugs

Finding Cancer Drugs that Affordable did some research on cancer, as well as exploration of cancer drugs, even finally able to gain patent
November 2010

Although newly arrived figure this one seemed passionate talk about her research when we met on the sidelines of the judging session event-Kalbe Science Awards Research & Technology in Jakarta some time ago. Not the slightest fatigue implied in his face. Morning. Widodo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.Med Sc, did look excited.

Widodo began to cultivate research since 2002, after joining the Eijkman Molecular Biological Institute in Bandung, West Java. Exactly one year after completing education S-2 at the Bandung Institute of Technology Molecular Biology

In 2003, Widodo {a scholarship from JICA Japan International Cooperation Agency) to conduct research on domestic cancer.Oi sakura, this quiet-looking man, a chance to join in leading research institutes in Japan  MS1 (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) for nearly four years (2004-2008).

In that period, Widodo did some research on cancer, as well as exploration of cancer drugs, even finally able to reach the International Patent No. PCT/JP2009/0S4161 WIPO (WO / 2009 / 1 10 546) through the method of providing a cure for cancer.

Widodo was a dozens of articles published through journals and papers at several International Conferences. His efforts led to the award "Young Investigator Award" from the Japan Tissue Culture Association in 2007 and awarded "Best Original Article" from Nestle Nutrition Council-Japan, in the same year.

Back set foot in the homeland around 2008, armed with a doctorate from the University of Tsukuba, Japan Biology Molekuler.Widodo dedicate themselves to researchers as well as lecturers of UB's Department of Biology. "I have a lot of researching natural ingredients to dosage cure for cancer, anemia and rheumatoid arthritis-funded Higher Education, and research that is independent," he explained.

An interest in researching natural ingredients for the preparation of drugs, developing vaccines and diagnostic tools for cancer, because based on Indonesia has a wealth of biodiversity that very large, but few are explored. "I focused on the exploration of biological wealth for cancer drugs that cost is still too expensive for most people of Indonesia. Besides, until now there has been no cure for cancer is safe without side effects. This is a big challenge for the world of research in Indonesia," he said.

Widodo feel lucky to have family support, both parents, their wives and children to continue to pursue areas of research. In fact, the family environment understand the limitation from the recognition of income as a researcher who is still relatively small.

"Income researchers in Indonesia is still relatively small and not worth the time spent for research. But we have the principle that everything we do is struggle to help the community. So be financial rewards are not the focus in our family. It's really reassuring me to always be able to focus on doing research, "he said.

For Widodo, research is a hobby, as well as the main job. "The research is part of our life that always should be given more attention. There is no research that successfully if only used as a sideline," he said, asserted.

It's just, in lndonesia recognition still inconsistency award (salary and other) between the research work with structural position. "These conditions create a climate of research in Indonesia has become less important compared with developed countries," he said.

In developed countries, he said, investigators received the award and paid quite so reluctant to occupy certain positions. By contrast, in Indonesia, he added, with certain positions will guarantee a salary better than just struggling in the field of research. "Not surprisingly, researchers at major universities in Indonesia would rather sit in the bureaucracy rather than have to toil in the lab doing research," said the man who has been busy issuing some international publications, and this latest patent drafting.
